People who are recovering from surgery, or that have an injury or ailment, aren’t going to stop needing physical therapy because of COVID. As we are healthcare providers, all staff at Physical Therapy of Los Gatos have received two rounds of vaccinations against the virus. We have a responsibility to stay open, and we take it seriously. We believe that patient care must be maintained at a high level, without interruption, and without undue risk.

Physical Therapy of Los Gatos is a High Quality, Low Volume Clinic

We maintain a high level of patient care, in part, by taking advantage of a particularly low-density environment. The SARS-CoV-2 virus exists and is transmitted where people gather, so we ensure that such gatherings do not occur in the clinic. In our high-quality, low patient volume clinic, Physical Therapists see each patient individually, with undivided attention, for one hour. Compare this with the “turn-and-burn” approach followed by many other clinics in an attempt to maximize insurance revenue. Additionally, we don’t place our patients at risk by traveling to other “catchment-clinic” areas. Our patients come to us.

To make patient-to-patient contact even less likely, we’ve staggered our treatment times. For instance, one Physical Therapist will see a patient from 9:00 to 10:00, and a second Physical Therapist will see a patient from 9:30 to 10:30. This ensures that there is no gathering occurring at the front desk.

Our Location Helps Guard Against Viral Transmission

Our medical office building has increased the air filtration process using a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Volume (MERV) of 13, which is the same as the air filtration in general surgery and hospital inpatient environments, to guard against viral transmission on particles or in aerosols. In addition, our patients can park less than five yards from the entrance and avoid stairwells and the basement. The clinic is immediately on your left as you enter the building, so there’s very minimal opportunity for viral exposure in the hallway.

Additional Steps

Everyone, staff and patients, wears a mask. If you don’t have one, or need a new one, we will provide one at no charge. There’s no “uplift” in our fee for Personal Protective Equipment. Everyone, staff and patients, washes their hands. We have a 20-second timer by the sink to help us with the CDC-recommended duration of hand washing. We have a check-in system for both staff and patients, that includes taking and recording of body temperature — one of the early signs of COVID infection. A pulse oximeter (02-saturation monitor) will be used if we think a patient has become more out-of-breath than is warranted by exercise alone.

We clean surfaces that are touched by staff and patients, including exam tables, door knobs, and light switches, between patients or every two hours. In addition to ambient air filtration, we have air purifiers in our treatment rooms, the staff room, and the bathrooms. These air purifiers use UV light or incinerate particles to render viruses non-infectious, are non-ozone generating, and have been approved for use by the State of California.

You Might Not Need to Come In

In some instances, you may be able to stay home and receive attention from our Physical Therapists on our HIPAA-compliant computer platform. The platform runs off your internet-connected PC or Mac and requires no special software. Low back pain, for instance, responds well to changes in the way you sit at your desk and specific exercises we recommend for you. If we can make you well without a visit, we will. Be advised though, some injuries and conditions require the direct, hands-on attention of our Physical Therapists for evaluation and treatment.

COVID Risks, Managed

Taken together, these COVID risk mitigation strategies mean that going to Physical Therapy of Los Gatos is less of a risk than doing many of the things you normally do, like going to the grocery store, getting take-out food, or taking your car in for service. You can still receive the benefits our clinic provides, including improving athletic performance during lockdown, recovery from surgery, and movement without pain. Physical therapy is an essential service, and we will remain open while taking steps to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones.

After my 9-year-old daughter suffered a ski accident, we were anxious about finding the right physical therapy. Physical Therapy of Los Gatos turned out to be a blessing. From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere put my daughter at ease. The therapists were incredibly skilled and patient, taking the time to explain everything to her and make the sessions fun. Her recovery was remarkable! Thanks to their expertise, she's fully healed and back on the slopes. I can't say enough about this team! Also, a special shout-out to Wendy at the front desk. Navigating insurance can be a nightmare, but Wendy made it a breeze, going above and beyond to sort out our deductible questions. If you're looking for top-notch physical therapy in Los Gatos, don't hesitate to choose this office. They're the best!

Best in the biz. I had chronic lower back pain for 6 mo prior, radiating down my leg, and Rob and Wes worked w me patiently to treat to a point where I am nearly pain free and back to doing heavy lifting, running, hiking , etc. They create psychological safety and are great listeners, combining this with the latest evidence backed theory and treatment plans, customized to the individual. It was a 3 mo journey to get to today, but grateful for their partnership and care. Wendy is also fantastic!

I would give them 10/5 stars if I could. I have been working with Rob for 1.5 years. He is in a league of his own and by far the best PT I’ve had a chance to work with. A few points I would like to highlight: - Rob has a very deep holistic understanding of the body. For example- I was referred to PT by a primary care and orthopedist for elbow tendonitis. In my first session with Rob he inquired into my entire health history and helped me understand that the elbow tendonitis was a symptom of irritated nerves in my left shoulder which were likely a result of repeated dislocations, subconscious coping mechanisms from my body, incomplete “at home” rehab, and thousands of hours spent sitting and standing with poor posture. None of the other PT’s I’ve worked with has paid remotely as much attention to the holistic picture of what was happening in my body. Unsurprisingly my results with other PT’s have been nowhere near as good. - The clinic is geared around 1-1 time with a therapist. No interns doing the therapy while the actual therapist multitasks. No 4-1 (or even 2-1) client ratio where the therapist splits their attention between customers. Some benefits of this individual attention model that I’ve enjoyed: - Extensive manual therapy. There are sessions where we’ve spent the entire hour doing manual therapy. All other PT clinics I’ve been to have done manual therapy for max 15-20 min in a 1 hour therapy session. This stuff makes such a huge difference and the fact that you can get a whole hour if needed has been critical to managing my otherwise unmanageable symptoms. - Custom work out plans. All PT’s I’ve gone to have done this, but I found Rob’s workout more tailored to suit my body. I have a lot of different injuries and have found that workouts from other PT’s help one thing and hurt another. Rob has helped me meet my body where it is at while still building strength in all the right places. - Rob is extremely honest about what he does and doesn’t know. No ego. He just cares for his patients He has no shame in telling me he doesn’t know something and that I should go seek XYZ doctor’s opinion for that answer. With other therapists I’ve gone to PT 1-2 times per week. At PT of Los Gatos 1-2 times per month is plenty. That’s basically 4 times more effective. I will admit that it is expensive, but given that I can go basically 4x less than other clinics its actually a pretty good deal. Plus all the time saved driving to and from the clinic is a nice bonus too. Can’t recommend them enough! Note: I’ve been in and out of 6 PT clinics over the last 10 years, so I have a fair number of experiences to compare against. Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like more information on my experience.

PT of Los Gatos provides the most thoughful and skilled physical therapy in the Bay Area. I have worked with them on numerous occasions over the past decade and deeply appreciate their keen diagnostic skills and broad therapeutic toolbox. They look at each person as an individual and personalize their plan. As a patient's condition evolves they have the ability to make effective adjustments that provide each patient with the best chance to fully recover from their injury.

I have been working with Stan at this PT clinic & have to say it is the best physical therapy place I’ve been to. You get 100% of the therapists time. I had knee surgery - meniscus repair - and working with Stan bought me back to normal functioning.
